Diagnostic Reagents

By closely controlling the production process, FeF Chemicals has succeeded in producing reagents, making us highly valued by customers in this sector.

Diagnostic reagent applications require products with very precise specifications. In many diagnostic reagents the level of impurity in the raw material can vary from batch to batch, leading to unacceptable variations in the performance of the reagent.

Due to their high purity and the high consistency between batches (batch variation reduced to a minimum), FeF Chemicals' quats are proven to be significantly superior in diagnostic reagents compared to other less pure compounds.

Examples of Diagnostic Reagents

The ability of Quaternary ammonium compounds (Quats) to form complexes with anionic molecules is used in the purification (extraction / separation) of various pharmaceutical actives such as antibiotics and heparin.

Cetrimide and CTAB are used in the purification process of heparin, a polysaccharide of natural origin developed from animal tissue and used as an anticoagulant in the treatment of thrombosis. During this process, protein molecules are removed by separation while the Quaternary ammonium compounds (Quats) forms a complex with the heparin.

Cetrimide and FeF 12-25A Diagnostic (LTAC or Dodecyl Trimethyl Ammonium Chloride Solution) are also used in special reagents, for example for the counting of blood cells (Bakers reagents). They work by lysing the red blood cells which are present in very high numbers in the blood compared to white blood cells. The count of white blood cells can be used to diagnose different diseases.
