Cosmetics and emulsions can be preserved using
Quaternary ammonium compounds
(Quats).
In cosmetics and
personal care preparations, the water content, oil phases, certain ingredients
and the level of some surfactants can favour the growth of microorganisms and
the consequent spoilage of the formulation.
Emulsions and gels used in cosmetics and personal care products can be
preserved using
Quaternary
ammonium compounds (Quats) such as
-
Cetalkonium Chloride (CKC),
-
Myristalkonium Chloride (MKC),
- Stearalkonium Chloride (SKC) and
- Cetrimide
Other quats such as Benzalkonium Chloride (BKC) can be used as well, depending on the formulation.
