Registration of FeF Chemicals' Products

All relevant FeF Chemicals' products were pre-registered in 2008: See our pre-registration numbers here.

We are involved in the relevant SIEF groups, either as a Facilitator or as an Active participant. Both our internal specialists as well as external consultants will insure that our products are registered in due time. A continuous dialogue with our suppliers and customers will help guarantee a smooth progression of the registration process.

About REACH

On June 1st, 2007, the European Commission adopted a new EU regulatory framework for chemicals (Directive 2006/121/EC and Regulation No. 1907/2006). Under the new system called REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals), enterprises that manufacture or import more than one tonne of a chemical substance per year are required to register it in a central database. The aims of the REACH Regulation are to improve the protection of human health and the environment while maintaining the competitiveness and enhancing the innovative capability of the EU chemicals industry. REACH gives furthermore greater responsibility to the industry to manage the risks from chemicals and to provide safety information on the substances. This information is being passed down the chain of production.
Transitional periods will be granted under REACH, in order to perform comprehensive registration tasks. Depending on substance volumes and certain health and environmental classifications, these transitional periods range from 3.5 to 11 years (Article 23). To be able to benefit from these transitional periods, manufacturers/importers must pre-register a substance. Substances will have to be pre-registered from June 1st to November 30th, 2008.

Biocides

If you are using our Quats, or are intending to use them in a disinfecting or similar product manufactured and/or sold within the EU, we would like to make you aware of the European Biocidal Products Directive 98/8/EC (1).

FeF Chemicals' most commonly used products for biocidal purposes have been identified at the European Commission as biocidal products having been placed on the market before May 14, 2000. However, our products have not been notified. As a consequence, some of our products may no longer be used in biocidal preparations manufactured and/or sold within the EU.

For example, our Cetrimide products are since October 25, 2009 not allowed to be used for Product Category I (Human hygiene). FeF Chemicals' Cetrimide products are therefore no longer allowed to be used for any biocidal purpose in the EU.

If you believe that, as a FeF Chemicals customer, some of your formulations are subject to the European Biocide Directive, please let us know and we will provide you with the most updated information about the usage of our products as biocides within the EU.
